tHE BEST AND WORST PLACES TO VISIT WITH YOUR DOG IN BERLIN

My 3 favorite places I like to visit with my dog in Berlin and Brandenburg

1. Hundeauslaufgebiet Hakenfelde

+ This is one of my favorite places to go with my dog in Berlin
+ You can walk your dog off leash in the whole park
+ Close to Spandau in the North West of Berlin
+ There is a river for the dogs to swim in
+ It is a huge forest, you can walk through the forest in around 2 hours
+ There are many parking possibilities on the side of Schönwalder Allee
+ Usually there are very well behaving dogs and we have never had issues with any of the dogs

- There is no fencing
- Sometimes you can come across a wild boar so it is not suited for dogs that love to hunt
- For most people living in the city center, it is too far away

2. Hundeauslaufgebiet Falkensee (Brandenburg)

+ It is a huge field where the dogs can walk off leash
+ They provide you with bags for the poo
+ There are well mannered and playful dogs
+ There is a small river for the dogs to drink, but not big enough for swimming
+ It is perfect for fetch because you can throw the ball really far

- You usually have to park at a residential street so it is not very nice for the people who live there (people who visit the field block all the parking spaces)
- Sometimes the ground can be dirty and muddy when it has rained
- The river is not very clean and no one really knows where the water is coming from. It is not a natural river
- No fencing to the street
- Across the street there is a forest and field where there are a lot of deer
- It can be far away for people who live in the city center

3. Hundeauslaufgebiet Pichelswerder

+ Closer to the city, easy to reach
+ There is a huge lake, the Havel, perfect for swimming in the summertime
+ The walk takes around 1,5 hours and it is a great walk going through the forest, next to the lake and sandy beaches

+ It is over all very clean, not much trash laying around
+ There is a huge parking space
+ At the end of the walk, there comes a nice little café where you can have a hot chocolate or a coffee at the end of the walk

- There are living wild boars in the forest and people sometimes leave food rests for them (which usually the dogs can smell and eat)
- The walk is quite short
- No fencing
- In the weekend, especially on Sundays it can be quite full of people and dogs

The 3 worst places to bring your dog in Berlin (in my opinion)

1. Hundeauslaufgebiet Modersohnstr./Revaler Str.

+ There are some equipment for training
+ Close to the city
+ Fencing

- There are always too many dogs. I went there once on a weekday and there must have been around 30 dogs
- It is way too small for the amount of dogs
- I found it to be quite dirty, the ground is just made of sand and dirt
- Some of the dogs were quite unfriendly and quickly there were dogfights happening
- Some dogs that were there were muzzled

2. Hundeauslaufgebiet Grunewald

+ It made of a huge forest and the biggest dog park in Berlin with 80 hectares
+ There is fencing on some of the ways
+ There is a big lake
+ Walking the forest ways can be very nice

- It has become like an attraction that brings even people without dogs there
- It is so full of dogs and people in every corner, especially on the ways leading to the water where most people want to go
- The dog owners can be quite unfriendly, just as an example, I was taking a picture of my dog and there happened to be another dog in the picture and the dog owner just freaked out telling me I cannot take a picture of his dog. Or the time my dog was a puppy and I was training with him with a long leash and a lady got very unfriendly, saying it is dangerous with the leash and that I have to remove it
- There are a lot of bike riders and joggers which can make some dogs pretty excited
- There are living a lot of boars, I have seen even a mama boar with her little ones which can be a big danger for both humans and dogs
- I have come across a lot of untrained and rude dogs in this park

3. Almost all the small dog parks in Berlin

There are so many so I am not going list them all.

3 of the worst small dog parks in Berlin:

Tegeler Weg / Westhafenkanal (no fencing to the busy street, dirty and full of trash, people living in tents under the bridge next to the park)
Hundegarten Am Schäfersee (one of the smallest yet, a few training equipment, but basically no space for running or doing anything at all)
Volkspark Rehberge (It is a 400 meter way where the dogs can walk off leash, without any fencing)

But there are also some nice ones, like..

.. Hundefreifläche Berlin - Westend ca. 1 ha
... Hundeauslaufgebiet im Jungfernheidepark ca. 1 ha
...
Park des Vereins Inselhunde ca. 9000 m2
